The Tar Years (1975-1989)
For many years John Sadler experimented and further develope the technique of Encaustic painting in his work which is a mixed media technique that involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments have been added. The liquid/paste is then applied to a surface — usually prepared wood - although canvas and other materials are often used. The term is derived from Greek, meaning a burning in.
John Sadler used a combination of Tar, Wax, Aluminum, Wood, Marble, Granite, Oil, Acrylic colour, Oil colour, especially during the years he developed the Tar Paintings (1975-1989) as well as in later workd throughout the 1980's and 1990's.
